EM-61

Electromagnetometer-61 (EM-61)

Use at Camp Edwards
The EM-61 is used to locate buried metal tanks, unexploded ordnance (UXO), and buried metal objects.

Description of the Technology
The Electromagnetometer-61 (EM-61) is a tool that uses a pulsating electromagnetic field to investigate the presence of metals, such as unexploded ordnance (UXO), buried below the ground surface.

The EM-61 consists of three separate items: a data logger, which collects data that is used to generate maps and aid in excavating buried objects; the brain, which holds all the electronics for the maps; and the coil, which logs all the data points.
