Community Involvement Specialist Joins Groundwater Study Program Team

Camp Edwards, Mass. — Community Involvement Specialist Lori Boghdan has joined the Impact Area Groundwater Study Program team. Boghdan will be working to inform community members about the investigation and cleanup of groundwater contamination at Camp Edwards on the Massachusetts Military Reservation (MMR) to keep them involved in activities related to the program's efforts.

Boghdan will be responsible for developing and implementing plans and programs designed to keep the public aware of significant events as the Groundwater Study Program transitions from investigation to cleanup. Her primary focus will be community involvement activities related to the Central Impact Area, the former target for artillery and mortar firing on the base. She also will assist with all community information needs related to the ongoing investigations near the installation's western boundary and northwest corner.

Prior to joining the Groundwater Study Program, Boghdan was a community involvement project manager for CH2M Hill, an engineering and community involvement contractor that has worked with both the Air Force Center For Environmental Excellence's (AFCEE) Installation Restoration Program at MMR and the Groundwater Study Program. Boghdan has overseen community involvement efforts for both programs since 2000. Prior to starting work with the MMR environmental programs, she worked in the communications department for a high-tech company.

According to Groundwater Study Program Manager Kent "Hap" Gonser, Boghdan's experience in promoting open communications with the public and involving them in program activities will be beneficial as the Groundwater Study Program moves toward the decision making process for interim and final cleanup actions in the Central Impact Area.

Boghdan received her degree in mass communications from Westfield State College in 1995. A Connecticut native, she now resides in Yarmouth Port with her husband and two dogs.
