Groundwater Study Program Provides Update at Tuesday Meeting

Camp Edwards, Mass. — The Impact Area Groundwater Study Program will provide an update on the progress of its investigation and cleanup of groundwater-related contamination at Camp Edwards during the monthly Impact Area Review Team (IART) meeting from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, at the Bourne Best Western, 100 Trowbridge Road, Bourne.

Presentations for the July meeting of the citizen's advisory group will inform IART members and the public about the Groundwater Study Program's ongoing investigation of explosive compounds and perchlorate in groundwater near the northwest corner of the base. It also will include an update of several recent Groundwater Study Program investigation and cleanup activities on Camp Edwards' 15,000 acres.

The update will include results from ongoing investigations at two former target areas near the southeast corner of the base and the start of work to clear unexploded ordnance and related items for a soil cleanup action at Demolition Area 1, a former demolition-training site. Plans for new investigative activities in the former training and defense contractor testing ranges, known as the Southeast Ranges, also will be presented.

The IART is comprised of citizen members from the communities surrounding the Massachusetts Military Reservation, and representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Groundwater Study Program. The team meets monthly to review Groundwater Study Program activities and provide input to program management. The public is invited to attend and participate in this meeting and discussions regarding the investigation and cleanup.
