Monitoring Well Installation Planned Off Sandwich Road

Camp Edwards, Mass. — Installation of a groundwater monitoring well will begin this week in Bourne off of Sandwich Road near the Cape Cod Canal.

Work on the well, which will be on Army Corps of Engineers property east of the Gallo Ice Arena and the Scenic Overlook, will not interfere with traffic or other area activities. Installation of the six-inch, flush mounted well will be conducted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday over the next three weeks. The drilling rig used for the installation will be visible from the road during that time.

This is one of 15 Impact Area Groundwater Study Program monitoring wells installed or being installed on and near the northwest corner of Camp Edwards. The wells are part of the Groundwater Study Program’s investigation into the nature and extent of groundwater detections of the oxidizer, perchlorate and the explosives chemical, RDX, found on and off the base in this area.
