Snake Pond Event Planned to Update Community on MMR Cleanup

Camp Edwards, Mass. — An update on seasonal surface water sampling to verify Snake Pond's safety for recreational use and recent investigation of groundwater in Sandwich will be the main topics of an informational social on the Snake Pond beach in Sandwich from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday.

The annual "Ice Cream & Information" event is co-hosted by the Army Environmental Center Impact Area Groundwater Study Program and the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) Installation Restoration Program. This informal "one-on-one" session is designed to answer questions from nearby residents and other recreational users of the pond regarding the ongoing MMR environmental investigation and cleanup activities related to Snake Pond and Sandwich.

Representatives from AFCEE, the Groundwater Study Program, the National Guard Bureau, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, the Army Corps of Engineers, and the Sandwich Board of Health will be available to answer questions. Informational displays and handouts related to the environmental cleanup programs also will be available.
