Monitoring Well Installation Planned in Sandwich

Camp Edwards, Mass. — Installation of a groundwater monitoring well will begin off the eastern side of Snake Pond Road, at the intersection with Cross Hill Road in Sandwich on Friday, November 11. Activities will not interfere with traffic in the area.

The drilling rig used for the installations will be visible from the road during the one week required for well construction. Work on the wells will be conducted between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, until November 30.

This well will be used to determine if contamination is present in the groundwater at this specific location. The drilling location was coordinated with town officials. Notices have been sent to local residents informing them of work hours and operations.

This work is in relation to the Groundwater Study Program's ongoing investigations into groundwater contamination from an area known as the J-3 Range which is located near the Massachusetts Military Reservation's boundary with Forestdale.
