Monitoring Well Installation Planned Off Sandwich Road

Camp Edwards, Mass. — The Impact Area Groundwater Study Program is installing a groundwater monitoring well on Army Corps of Engineer property near the Cape Cod Canal in Bourne. This well will be used to help find the extent of groundwater contamination detected near this location earlier this year.

The monitoring well is located to the east of the Gallo Ice Arena. The installation will not interfere with any activities in the area, but the drilling rig will be visible from Sandwich Road. Work on the well will take approximately three weeks and will be conducted between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Groundwater Study Program currently plans to install at least seven monitoring wells between the northwest corner of Camp Edwards and the Cape Cod Canal as part of its investigation into off-base detections of perchlorate and the explosives component, RDX. The other well installation sites will not be visible to the public.
