Detection Found in Groundwater Well

Camp Edwards, Mass. — The recent sampling and analysis of a groundwater well, located a half-mile north of the Bourne Rotary near the Cape Cod Canal, showed detections of perchlorate. Since the well is not used for drinking water, this detection does not represent a health risk.

The detection was reported in a recent groundwater-sampling event at a well located on land owned by the Army Corps of Engineers. Results of the well test showed detection levels up to 6.1 parts per billion. A state or federal regulatory standard for perchlorate has not been established.

This is the first time the Groundwater Program has sampled this well as part of its ongoing investigation at Camp Edwards. The program is conducting additional investigations in this area.
