Program Update Scheduled for September IART Meeting

Camp Edwards, Mass. — An update on the Impact Area Groundwater Study Program's investigation and plans for cleanup at Camp Edwards on the Massachusetts Military Reservation is scheduled for the September meeting of the Impact Area Review Team (IART). The meeting will be held at the Bourne Best Western, 100 Trowbridge Road, Bourne, from 6 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, September 23.

The Groundwater Study Program will provide updates on the ongoing removal of munitions and related items, and proposed soil and groundwater cleanup actions at the former demolition training area, known as Demolition Area 1. Status reports and next steps on several interim actions proposed for the former artillery and mortar target area known as the Central Impact Area, and the area near Camp Edwards' Sandwich boundary known as the Southeast Ranges, also will be presented.

Other investigation updates will include the most recent findings from the program's investigation on and off the base near Camp Edwards' western boundary and northwest corner, and near the former training and defense contractor testing area, known as the J-2 Range.

The IART is comprised of citizen members from the communities surrounding the Massachusetts Military Reservation, and representatives from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and the Groundwater Study Program. The team meets monthly to review Groundwater Study Program activities and provide input to program management. The public is invited to attend this meeting and participate in discussions regarding the investigation and cleanup.
